*An eerie silence prevailed in the houses of families at Deralakatte, whose kin were killed in a ghastly accident between tempo traveller and a lorry at Piriyapattana in Mysore on Wednesday morning.

The family and relatives were in shock over the death of their family members.
The deceased have been identified as Shafeeda (8), Samoon (15 months) (daughter and son of Mohammed - Zeenath couple), Rukiya (60) (Zeenath's mother), Asiyamma (70) (Zeenath's grandmother), Zunaid (Zeenath's nephew), Ameer (45), his daughter Fauziya (27), Fauziya's daughter Isham (7) and driver Sharfuddin (22), a resident of Bantwal. The injured include Mohammed (40) - Zeenath (30) couple, their daughter Shamna (9), Zeenath's sister Bushra, her daughter Shafa (2 years six months), another sister Raziya and her kids Hafeezu, Ifazu, Ameer's wife Apsa, their son Arif, son-in-law Iqbal, and daughter-in-law Ishan.
All were returning to Mangalore after visiting Muthupete, Nagoor and Erwadi Darghas to offer prayers.
While Mohammed was a beedi contractor, Ameer was a cloth merchant. He was the resident of Addoor and eking out living by selling clothes by visiting different places. As his son-in-law was in Gulf, Ameer shifted to Deralakatte to stay with his daughter.
His two sons are in foreign countries and another has suffered injuries in the accident. Ameer's daughter and grand child too were killed in the mishap.
In fact, Ameer had recently met with an accident in railway station at Kasargod. He is survived by his wife, two sons and mother.
Ameer's son-in-law Iqbal is working in a shipping firm abroad and had visited native on four-days leave. Now, Iqbal is injured and has lost his wife and daughter.
Isham who was killed is the third standard student of Kunil School in Natekal.

In the accident, he has lost his wife Rukhiya, daughter Shafeeda and son Shamoon.
Shafeeda is the third standard student at Vidyarathna English Medium School.

Asiyamma's eldest son Mohammed Mustafa was killed in a road accident on March 4.
Within two months of the mishap, the family has received another jolt in the family.

Sharfuddin, the driver of the ill-fated tempo traveller, was driving a rented car in the past to eke out living. He started working as tempo traveller driver about a year ago.
Son of K H Kasim and Rukiya couple and a resident of Soora in Maindala in Bantwal taluk, he was the source of living for his parents.
While Kasim works as a gardener in Pilikula, Rukiya rolls beedis at home. As the family was living in poverty, the eldest son of the family was working in a hotel.
The family had constructed a house last year. Owing to financial constraints, even the house has remained unplastered.
Sharfuddin had studied upto ninth standard at Navoor Government high school. To help the family, he started the profession of driving.
