*Mangalore Mayor Mahabala Marla has said that the Mangalore City Corporation will computerise its entire administrative operations to increase transparency and speed up delivery of services.

Speaking to mediapersons at a 'Meet the Press' programme organised by the DK district Working Journalists Association and Mangalore Press Club here on Tuesday, he said that all the departments in the MCC will be connected with networking LAN. Software for different sections of the corporation will be developed. With the introduction of citizen-friendly software, the citizens will know the progress of the files online. Online complaint registration facilities will be made available for the citizens, he added.
"Once we have all the documents on properties in hand with the completion of property card survey, then the MCC itself can issue notices to the citizens to pay taxes," he said.
The Mayor said that a circular has been issued to the town planning section of the MCC that the officials should visit the underconstruction buildings once in a month, to ensure that they do not violate the rules.
A comprehensive advertisement policy will be implemented in the MCC limits.
Water supply
To supply water 24X7 to the citizens of Mangalore, the government has approved ADB second phase project at a cost of Rs 160 crore. To revive and develop UGD network in old municipality area, the government has sanctioned Rs 120 crore under Kudcemp project.
*Water adalat*
The Mayor said that the MCC is gearing up to enforce the installation of water meters as a means to check wastage of water. Discussion on all the pending water arrears and also on the allegations of mistakes in waterbills will be heard at the water adalat. The adalat will be held soon after the first council meeting.
He said that for the new vented dam, the MCC has paid Rs 23.50 crore and the government has sanctioned Rs 30.70 crore.
*Development of circles*
The Mayor said that Kankanady Circle, Ambedkar Circle, Mallikatte Circle, Bunts Hostel Circle, PVS Circle and Navabharath Circle will be developed scientifically, to check traffic congestion. The work on footpaths and drains will be taken up on a priority basis. A sum of Rs 30 crore has been earmarked for the purpose. The work on concreting of road from St Agnes Circle to Mallikatte Circle-Kadri temple road, at a cost of Rs six crore will be taken up along with developing Ganapathy High School road.
Stating that old bus stand in Hampankatta will be developed into a multi-level car parking area, the Mayor said that the land was given to the MUDA for developing it. However, as no development works were initiated so far, the MCC has decided to develop it on its own.
He said that development committee will be reconstituted to discuss on the integrated development of Mangalore city. Similarly, green committee will be constituted to look into the beautification and greenery of the city.
All those buildings that are above 20,000 square feet, then they have to shell out two per cent of their profit as a part of Corporate Social Responsibility, he said. Reported by Deccan Herald 9 hours ago.
