National Aerolympics begins today

*The Bangalore branch of the Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI) and the Defence Research and Development Organisation are hosting the second Bangalore edition of the National Aerolympics for three days from November 28.*

A total of 20 institutions will take part in the event. They were selected based on their 40-page project submitted to AeSI on the topic 'Aircraft: The Funtastic Machine.

VBalakrishnan, executive director of HAL and chairman of AeSI told a press conference on Wednesday that the aim of the event was to create awareness about India's aviation programme, enable students to collect, collate, sift and arrange information and encourage participants to join the aviation industry as engineers, scientists and designers.

There would be nine events namely: project report, aviation quiz, 'They moved India' home project, general knowledge and current affairs, Bharat Ratna quiz, collage making, debate on national issues, surprise events and project presentation. They fall into three categories: team event, individual event and group event.

Some of the participating teams include HAL Public School (Bangalore), Delhi Public School (Bangalore), Somalwar High School (Nagpur), DAV Public School (Amritsar), The Heritage School (Kolkata), HAL School (Lucknow).

D P Sabharwal, event director told Deccan Herald: "We received 40 reports, out of which 20 have been selected. At the end of the competition, 44 prizes for each event will be given away. Each school team will consist of four students accompanied by a teacher. Based on the overall performance, a champion team would be chosen."

The event will be held at the Aeronautical Development Establishment, Thippasandra Road. The programme starts at 9.30 am on all days. Reported by Deccan Herald 3 days ago.
