*American Honours Network, with a number of community colleges under its umbrella, has launched a unique "2+2 programme" for students.*
Under the new programme, the network will allow students pursue a two-year degree course from a community college after which they can choose a university of their choice under the network to complete the rest of their undergraduate studies. "Once students get the requisite grades from the community college, students can enrol in a University of their choice within the network," said David Finegold, Chief Academic Officer of American Honours. He was speaking at the launch of 2+2 pathway program to Ivy league American universities here on Wednesday.
The network consists of a number of community colleges such as Navarro College in Texas, Pierce College in Washington, Mercer County community college, New Jersey, Jackson College in Michigan.
Some of the varsities in the network are: Stanford University, University of California, Berkeley, George Mason University, Purdue University, University of North Carolina, Occidental College, to name a few.
According to Finegold, the average cost of studying in a US university is around $ 75,000 whereas in a community college it would be around $ 20,000. "A work visa of one year is usually given after college. However, through this route one can get a work visa for one year after their community college, pursue university degree, work for another year and then pursue their masters," he said.
Students have to complete their high school to apply for the 2+2 programme. The intakes for the program is done in four seasons - September (Fall), January (Winter), Spring (April) and July (Summer).
