Anonymous $210,000 donation for female grads in City

*A not-for-profit organisation based in the United States, which provides tuition-free school for children born into extreme poverty, has received an anonymous donation of $210,000 to create a stipend fund for female graduates in Bengaluru.

The fund received to create an endowment that will provide stipend to Christel House India-Bangalore female graduates while they pursue college and careers has been named Vidya Maanini-Kannada for 'young girl full of knowledge,' a statement issued in Washington said.

"Our donor is passionate about providing opportunities and empowerment for our female students in India for many years to come," Christel DeHaan, founder and CEO of Indianapolis-based Christel House International, said.

"We say a heartfelt thank you," DeHaan said. Christel House India-Bangalore was established in 2001 and currently serves more than 1,000 students. Less than 10 per cent of students in India graduate from high school, whereas 85 per cent of Christel House India-Bangalore graduates are on track to graduate from college, the statement said.
