A fifteen-year-old youth died on Saturday after trying to flee from a traffic constable who saw him driving triple-seat. According to the Ambernath Police station in Ulhasnagar on January 20, Suraj Anup Ghoda, a Grade 10 student of Jaslok High School and Junior College in Ulhasnagar, joined two friends for a fun ride on one of their bikes after school.*Suraj Ghoda, who died while escaping a traffic constable. Pic/Navneet Barhate*As they approached the Sai Baba Temple in Ulhasnagar, they spotted a couple of traffic constables conducting a naka bandi and, thus, panicked. “Seeing the traffic constables, the boys raced towards the Ordinance Factory and didn’t notice a speed breaker.
The bike went over the bump in high speed and Ghoda, who was riding pillion, fell down and sustained head injuries,” said a police officer from Ambernath police station, on condition of anonymity. The youngster was rushed to the Criticare hospital in Ulhasnagar by both his friends and other passersby.
Later, he was shifted to Fortis hospital in Kalyan, where he was treated before being pronounced dead on Saturday. Jaslok and its students mourned the death of the victim by observing silence in school. The traffic cops are organising a road safety week in the state this week, as a part of which, they fine and educate drivers on road safety and traffic rules through banners and nakabandis.
Ghoda and his friends, who were caught unaware as constables are never stationed at the chowk on an ordinary day, tried to escape from one such constable who was part of the awareness drive when the accident happened.
“I have been warning students to not ride bikes and this is a very unfortunate incident. The boy fell and died in Fortis hospital in Kalyan. They were driving rashly after they saw the constable,” said Arvind Kumar Shukla, principal of the secondary section of Jaslok High School. Reported by Mid-Day 2 days ago.
